Week of January 30-February 3

Classroom Chatter
*Cancer Smashers: We extended the fundraiser until Monday! Thank you for your contributions! If you would still like to donate, you can send in your money on Monday or donate online. Way to go!

*School Calendar Update:
Friday, February 17, was originally scheduled as a Teacher Institute-- that is not the case any longer. We will be in school that day.
We do have a Teachers' Institute on Tuesday, March 20.
Also, Friday, May 18, (not Thursday, May 17th) is another Early Dismissal/SIP Day

Reading: We will work on reviewing our strategies this week. We will on our novel studies. We will work on extended responses and applying our knowledge about reading strategies to a variety of literature.

English:
The verb test is Wednesday. We then will work on writing our autobiographies.

Spelling:
This week is L. 15. The test and homework is due Friday.

Social Studies
I extended culture day to two days instead of one. I had the students pick which day they wanted to present. We will have half the class present Monday and the rest of the class on Tuesday. We will spend the rest of the week finishing up chapter 3. A study guide will come home mid week. The test will be sometime the following week. Date to still to be determined of the week of Feb 6th.

Mrs. Csorba's Math
We will take a division 4 mad minute. This week we will finish up chapter 6 with time and elapsed time. There will be a CYP on the 2nd half of chapter 6 on Wednesday and the test will be Friday. Students will be allowed to use measurement notes and calculators on both CYP and test.

Week of January 23-27

Classroom Chatter:
Don't forget to turn in your Read to Succeed sheets for your free 6 Flags ticket. Due date 2/1.

Nice job to the students for doing such an amazing job on their reading and math MAPS tests. We celebrated Friday afternoon playing board games and enjoying a popcorn treat! ;)


Spelling:
We will take a pretest on L. 14 on Monday and the test and homework will be on Friday.

Reading
We didn't start our novel studies yet. We spent a lot of time talking about questioning and doing extended responses last week. This week we will dive into our new novel and work on making connections. We also just finished a WONDERFUL book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. It was my first time reading it and the kids and I LOVED IT! I recommend it to anyone!!! Ask your child about it. It is my new favorite book. :) We will start a new read aloud by the same author, Kate DiCamillo this week: The Tale of Desperaux.


English
We will continue with verbs and work on the verbs in the past tense.

Social Studies
How are the culture day projects coming along? Hopefully well! Looking forward to our culture day on 1/30. In the meantime, we will wrap up chapter 3 with learning how an immigrant becomes a citizen.

Science
We will finish up learning about weather. This will complete chapter 9. A study guide went home Friday in the science folder. The test will be Thursday 1/26.

Math for Mrs. Csorba's class
We will take a mad minute in division 3. We will continue to work on learning about the metric system. We will also work on learning about temperature and time.

Week of January 16-20

Classroom Chatter
Congratulations to Jordyn and Rebecca! They are the classroom winners of our spelling bee. They will compete in Thursday's 3rd grade spelling bee for a chance to advance to the District Spelling Bee!

We will be taking the MAPS test in Math on Wednesday, 1/18. Let's have some great results like we had in reading!!! I'm super proud of my class and you should be of your child! Thanks for all your support. Remember to get a good night's sleep and eat a really good breakfast Wednesday morning!!!! :)

Spelling
L. 13's words are j, k, and kw sounds. The pretest will be Tuesday. The homework and test will be due on Friday.

Reading
We will start a new novel study in our guided reading groups. While reading our novels, we will practice the questioning strategy as well as review our other strategies.

English
We will continue with verbs this week.

Science
We are working through our unit and this week we will learn about weather!

Social Studies
We will continue with our chapter 3 unit on culture. Students received information about their culture day project last week. Students turned in their ideas to me and they all look great! Looking forward to our culture day on Monday 1/30!!!!

Mrs. Csorba's math class:
We will take a mad minute in division 2's this week. We also will continue with our measurement unit. Tuesday, the class will take a CYP on ch. 6, lessons 1-5. We will learn about the metric system this week.

Week of January 9-13

Classroom Chatter:

The students received a list of words to look over and study for the upcoming spelling bee. We will have our classroom spelling bee Wednesday, 1/11. The practice bee will be on Tuesday, 1/10. The top 2 spellers in our classroom will advance to the grade level bee. Then the grade level bee will be held 1/19. The district bee will be 1/24.


Market Day: If you are interested in volunteering for Market Day, please arrive at 8:00 am on Sat. 1/7 at Lakeview. Thank you for your help!

Reading: We will continue with fact and opinion and compare and contrast. We also will be working on extended responses to our reading.

Spelling: List 12 will be this week. The pretest will be Monday. The homework and test will be due Friday.

English: We will continue with our study of verbs. We also will begin writing our autobiographies.

Science: We will continue our study of weather.

Social Studies: We will continue with chapter 3 on culture. Look for information to come home this week about a culture day project to do at home.
