Classroom Chatter
Thank you to everyone who sent in goodies for the little surprise birthday party the students threw me on Wednesday at the end of the day. How thoughtful! I enjoyed reading all the cards everyone made. It makes me feel so special to be your teacher. Thank you to everyone. You all made my 29th birthday a memorable one!

Don't forget Monday is January's reading party. The following students already earned their 28 days of reading for January: Sarah, Amina, Caroline, Ashley, Paul, Morgan L., Lukas, Matt Mc., Morgan M., Matthew Mi., Tim, Vivian, Mackenzie, and Ian. If your name is not posted here, you need to make sure you bring in your folder Monday to get credit for January's party. We will be eating with Miss Carlstrom's class.

This week is IOWA testing. Students will be testing Monday-Thursday. Like always, students should make sure they get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Thursday is the Valentine's Day Party. I sent a list home on Friday with students' names to help with valentines. I will set aside time on Thursday before the party for students to pass out valentines. The party will be in the afternoon starting at 1:30. We look forward to a "sweet" time! Parents who are helping at the party can come at 1:15 to set up.

Spelling
L. 22 words are words ending with y. The list will come home Monday. We will take a pretest Monday. The test will be on Friday.

English
We will continue working on writing our friendly letters this week. At the end of the unit, we will be writing letters to Matthew Millbrandt's cousin who is in the Navy. He currently is in Iraq. How lucky we are to have an opportunity to support our troops and pratice letter writing with a real authentic experience!

Reading
We will continue to work on extended responses and reading passages this week. Much of the IOWA testing time will take place during reading time.

Social Studies
We will begin Chapter 3 this week. Due to the snow day, teachers' institute and early dismissal, we did not begin this last week.

Science
Our science unit is slowly coming to an end. We will finish up learning about the planets in our solar system. This week we will study Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

Math
This week we will be taking IOWA tests in math on Tuesday and Wednesay. Monday we will have a checkpoint covering the first part of chapter 11. The end of the week we'll learn about perimeter and area of figures. We will continue with mad minutes this week. This week students will take a mixed mad minute of all facts 0-12.
