Classroom Chatter:
Parents and students,
I was to thank you for your generosity during this holiday season. We were able to collect so many gifts for our "adopted family" this year! Take a look at these pictures. You all are angels!

We will be bowling on Tuesday morning. Students are able to bring money to buy a snack at the snack bar. It is highly recommended that students bring a sack lunch this day versus buying a hot lunch. In the past, many hot lunches have gone to waste because a student signs up for hot lunch and then after bowling, decides not to take a lunch because they're too full. If they bring a sack lunch and don't feel like eating it, they can take it home. Thank you.

Don't forget Friday is our all school field trip to Tivoli to see Unaccompanied Minors. We look forward to the fun day to kick off our winter break.

When we return from winter break, the students will be roller skating for 2 weeks in gym class. Ms. Stainman is asking if there are any parents who would like to come during our gym time to help tie skates. If you are interested, please send her an email at tstainman@ccsd66.org

We have gym daily from 10:40-11:05. Thanks!

Please be advised that as of January 4, 2010 there will be a price increase in hot lunch program. The price of hot lunch will be $2.50 per meal.

Spelling
We will have a pretest on Monday on Holiday words. If your child receives a 100%, they don't have to take the test on Friday. We will do special activities this week using these spelling words.

English
We will finish up our holiday stories. Students will be sharing them with the class this week. Look for them to come home at the end of the week. Enjoy!

Reading
We will be reading the story, Pepita Talks Twice. There won't be a vocabulary quiz this week. We will continue making connections while we read this story.

Science
We are finished with Chapter 5. The study guide is in the science folder. The test is scheduled for Thursday.

Social Studies
We began chapter 3 this week. We will be half way done with this unit before we break for the holidays. We will finish up the unit when we return in January. There will not be a chapter test for this unit since we will have the 2 week break in between this chapter. I will just take a grade on the open book reviews. There will be a project that will be coming home in January about Culture Day. This will be taken for a grade in place of the test.

Math
We will be taking a mad minute this week in x8's. This week students will be working on a graph project in the classroom. Homework will be very light, if any at all, so use this "free" time to take advantage of mastering those multiplication facts!

Classroom Chatter
It was great meeting with everyone this week at our parent/teacher conference!

Attached to my e-mail about my blog being updated, I listed all the wonderful gifts we received for our adopted family. Some gifts were from our classroom and some were from Mrs. Spakausky's class. Remember, we are both collecting for the same family since this family is made up of 8 people. If you happen to be holiday shopping this weekend and can donate a gift for the family, it is greatly appreciated. All gifts are due to school by Tuesday 12/8. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Thank you to those of you who have already donated!!!!

Spelling

L. 13's words are spelled in the past tense with final y. We will take a pretest on Monday and the test will be Friday. Now that we are in the 2nd trimester, I will also start taking a spelling grade on either a workbook page or an ABC order sheet.

English

We will finish up with the first part of Unit 4 this week on adjectives. We will then hold off on the 2nd part of unit 4-adverbs until we return from winter break. We will begin writing a holiday story similar to our turkey stories.

Reading

This week we will focus on the reading strategy, connections. We will read the story the Mysterious Giant of Barletta. We will have a vocab quiz on the words on Thursday. The list is in the reading folder. Don't forget November/December's book reports are due Thursday 12/17.

Science

We will learn about food chains and food webs this week. We will test on Ch. 5 on Thursday 12/17.

Social Studies

We will begin chapter 3-People move from place to place. This week we will learn why people move to new communities.

Math

We will begin chapter 4 in math. Chapter 4 teaches us about data and probability. This week we will focus on different types of graphs. We also will be taking a mad minute in x7's.
