Week of February 27-March 2

Classroom Chatter
Don't forget Tuesday is an early dismissal. Students will be dismissed at 11 AM.

We will be doing some special activities Wednesday and Friday to recognize Leap Year and Dr. Seuss's birthday! Ask your child about it!

TREASURE CHEST is getting low on prizes! If anyone could donate any prizes, please send some in. Target's dollar section and the dollar store always have some good stuff. Thanks in advance!!!! What are some good items??? Giant sunglasses, St. Patrick's day stuff, cool pens or pencils... or ask your child what they would like to find in the Treasure Chest! ;)

Spelling
We will not have our regular spelling this week and will use this time for extra reading time as we prepare for the ISAT tests coming the week of March 5th.

Reading
We will work on our photo books for our Black History month project. We also will continue to practice and review for our ISAT tests.

English
We will work with adjectives this week.

Social Studies
There will be a test on part 1 of Chicago. There is study guide in the social studies folder. All the information needed to study can be obtained from the Chicago packet.

Science
We will learn about solar and lunar eclipses.

Math
We will take a mad minute in division 8's. We also will begin our geometry unit. We are postponing our graph projects in the computer lab until after ISAT testing (which is coming up the week of March 5th).

Week of February 20-24

Classroom Chatter
No school Monday for Presidents' Day.

Spring Conferences are being held the week of March 5th. Conferences are mainly for math parents. You should be hearing from your child's math teacher by today if you haven't already. Starting Monday, 2/27, I will open up any of the remaining spots for my homeroom. I will send you an email to sign up online. Spring conferences are being scheduled on an as needed basis. I will not be requesting a conference for all students. However, if you feel a conference is necessary at this time, then you can reserve your time starting 2/27!

Spelling
No spelling list again. We will use spelling time to work on prefix/suffix.

Reading
We will continue with identifying prefix/suffix and root words. We will continue with working on writing extended responses which we find text proofs and interpret what we read. We also will start reading some biographies on African Americans for Black History month!

English
We will begin our next unit on adjectives.

Science
We will learn about the moon!

Social Studies
We will continue with our study on Chicago.

Math
We will have a test next Friday on chapter 7. We also will begin a graph project! There will be a CYP on lessons 4-6 on Tuesday. Also, I sent out an email about Spring Conferences. If you feel you would like a conference, please schedule a time by Friday, 2/24. I would like to start scheduling for my homeroom by 2/27. Thank you!

Week of February 13-17

Classroom Chatter
Our Valentine's Day parties will be on Tuesday in the afternoon. We look forward to a wonderful day!

There will be school Friday. It was an institute day, but that has changed. ;)

Spelling
This week we will skip our list and focus on prefixes and suffixes of words. There will be a test on this on Friday in place of the spelling list.

English
We will finish up typing our autobiographies this week.

Reading
We will continue to work on all our strategies as we finish up our novels. We also will work on extended responses to our reading.

Social Studies
We will begin our next unit of study on Chicago!

Science
We will learn about how the Earth and Moon interact!

Math
We will take a mad minute in division 6. We will have a CYP on Monday on lessons 1-3. We will learn about line plots, circle graphs and combinations this week. We also will do some fun Valentine math graphing on Tuesday!

Week of February 6-10

Classroom Chatter
Congrats to the 3rd graders for making it to the 100th Day of School come Tuesday!!!! :)

Spelling
L. 15 homework and test will be Friday.

Reading
We will spend the week working in our guided reading groups and responding to our literature. We also will continue working on compare and contrast and finding main ideas.

English
We will write and type our autobiographies this week!

Social Studies
Culture day, chapter 3, test is Tuesday. The students did a WONDERFUL job on their presentations!!! We will spend the rest of the week doing some immigration activities at the computer lab!

Science
We will begin our next unit on Space! It's out of this world! ;)

We will take a mad minute in division 5's. We will begin chapter 7, statistics and probability.
