Classroom Chatter:

Happy Snow Day! I hope everyone enjoyed the day off Friday. Ginger sure did! She likes to eat the snow.

Can anyone take a roll of film in for me to be developed? The pictures are of the students and will be used for an end of the year project. Send me a note or email and I'll send the roll home with your child. Thanks in advance.

Congratulations to Caroline and Daniel. They won the classroom spelling bee last week. They will participate in the 3rd grade spelling bee which has been rescheduled for Monday due to the snow day. Way to go!

Spelling
Lesson 21's words are nouns spelled with -er. The list will go home Monday and is in the spelling folder. The test is Friday. There will not be a pretest this week due to the shortened week.

English
We will begin a writing unit this week. Students will learn how to write a friendly letter and the 5 parts of friendly letters (Heading, Greeting, Body, Closing, and Signature).

Reading
Monday we will take the quiz for L. 4. A review packet went home last week to help practice for the quiz. We will continue working in our Illionois workbook to prep for ISATs. We will begin lesson 5 this week. This is the final lesson and it teaches us about: author's purpose for writing, how to compare different types of writing by the same author, plot, characters, setting, problem, resolution, characterization, similies, onomatopoeia, different forms of literature and personal & third person narratives!

We will continue working on writing extended responses using our hamburger model. We are all done with our Test Ready books. I sent home the books on Friday to review the lessons for a cumulative test. We will take the test on Thursday. To study, review the lessons in the test ready book. Prefix, Suffix, and Root words were the most challenging for the students.

Science
Due to the snow day, we will take Friday's Sun Quiz on Monday. This week we will focus our study on eclipses and seasons.

Social Studies
We will begin chapter 3 in social studies. Chapter 3 teaches us why people from all over the world have come to live in the United States. We will learn about customs, citizens, migration, Jane Adams, and Langston Huges, to name a few!

Math
We will continue with our geometry unit and working on problem solving extended responses. This week we will be taking a x12 mad minute.
