Classroom Chatter
Information went home a few weeks ago regarding the National Spelling Bee. Don't forget the District Spelling Bee will be February 8th. My classroom will be having two spelling bees to obtain winners who will participate in the 3rd grade bee and possibly the District bee. The third grade spelling bee will be on Friday, 2/1. This week I will hold a practice spelling bee and then a real spelling bee and the final two students will be our classroom winners and compete in Friday's 3rd grade bee for a chance to move to the District bee.

Spelling
L. 20's words are spelled with er. The test is Friday. We will have a pretest on Monday. Spelling lists will go home on Monday.

English
We will finish unit 4 on Adjectives and Adverbs with a test on Thursday. I will go over the study guide (it went home on Friday and should be in the Language Arts folder) on Wednesday.

Reading
We will finish up unit 4 in our Illinois workbook. The quiz over this material will be Monday 2/4. I'll send home a review to practice for the quiz before the weekend. We also will continue working in our Test Ready books. We also will begin writing extended responses to begin preparing for March's ISAT tests. We will be using a Hambuger picture to help organize our response. It is to stay in the reading folder.

Social Studies
We will work on our maps this week.

Science
This week we will spend learning about the sun. We also will learn why we have seasons and eclipses.

Math
Students should be studying x11's this week. We will continue to work in chapter 11 on geometry. This week we will study circles, congruent shapes, similar shapes, and symmetry. We will also share our graphs we've been working on. We also will continue working to prepare for ISAT tests. We will be doing some problem solving and continue work in our practice test packets.
