Classroom Chatter
I hope everyone has a wonderful HOLIDAY and a HEALTHY and HAPPY New Year!!!

Classes resume Monday, January 3rd. Tuesday, January 4th will be our winter fluency benchmark. We will not have reading on Tuesday.

Spelling - We are on list 12: words with the vowel sounds plus r. A pretest will be on Monday. Homework will be given Monday and due Friday. The final test will be on Friday.
Reading - We will start working on the strategy of monitoring and clarifying as we read using the story "Nights of the Pufflings". We will then extend our strategy use while working on a novel study. All the while, we will also be distinguishing fact and opinion. As always, we will continue to utilize strategies from previous weeks.

English
We will learn about adverbs this week.

Science
We will begin a new unit, States of Matter. This is chapter 11 in our textbook. This science unit will have our usual notes and graded assignments. We will be having our first science test now that we're in trimester 2. This is weeks away. As time draws near, we will be reviewing in class and a study guide will come home a week prior to the test to help with studying.

Social Studies
We will begin the 2nd part of our culture unit. Chapter 3 lesson 3 teaches us about immigration and being a citizen.

Math
We will be taking a mad minute in x9's this week. We also will begin chapter 7 on statistics and probability. We will be doubling up on some lessons, so your child may have 2 workbook pages to complete for homework. We will also be learning how to write an extended response using a t-chart in the next couple of weeks.
